minus annoyingly high startup costs and troublesome geographic
boundaries
The Internet opened for commerce in 1991, and piles of cybercash have
been mounting ever since. In fact, a 1995 survey conducted by Nielsen
Media Research reported the following:
- There are 24 million Internet users in the United States and
Canada
- 2.5 million people have already made purchases using the Internet
- 31% of all commercial web sites are profitable and the figure is
expected to rise over the next 12 to 24 months.
- Web commerce combined for a total of $436 million in sales in 1995
and by 1998 sales should hit $46 billion
