The History

According to marchmadness.org, the term "March Madness" started from a men's high school basketball tournament in Illinois that started in 1908. The "Sweet Sixteen" teams regularly drew big crowds to watch the games. Now, the terms are trademarked by the NCAA and the Illinois High School Association.

Most of the records and historical information came from the NCAA's Web site.
