Brief Game History

Inventor

Alfred Mosher Butts (above) invented Scrabble in 1948. Popularity grew slowly but the demand began to surpass supply in 1952. Throughout the 70s, 80s and 90s, popularity continued to grow and clubs and tournaments began to pop up all over the world. Now, there are many spin-offs of the game, and Scrabble has even been incorporated into 18,000 school programs in the United States.
