technique: composition and lighting

There's no doubt that someone who does not ride a skateboard will have a harder time understanding the principles of skate photography than someone who does. Notice there's a certain aesthetic and comprehension of what a trick should look like in a photo and how it should be shot.

A number of important factors go the through the head of a photographer before shooting the photo: How do I light it? How much time before we get kicked out? How do I give the spot justice? Do I shoot a sequence or a still? You get the point.

Photographers who skate are at a great advantage to those who don't because they can relate to the situation and appreciate all of its nuances. On to composition and lighting!
