What is the word on the street?

Homeless Voices

After confirming that the following individuals were homeless, the question was asked, "What would you say about homelessness in Gainesville?" They responded:

"The person I was living with was shooting and selling drugs," a resident mother of four children living at St. Francis House said. "I don't want my kids exposed to that. Sometimes it is better to leave home."

"It's the hardest life there is," Amos said, a homeless man who has lived in Gainesville for the majority of his life. "These streets are rough. No one wants to take me in, but the Lord has my back."

"I'm free now, but I want to go to Virginia to be with my sister" Gemini said, a homeless man who recently moved to Gainesville. "I think lots of people want to leave."

"Nobody cares about nothing in this town," Frank said. "I'm not ashamed."

"Most people don't realize how hard life can be when you have nowhere to turn," Lisa said, a resident staying in St. Francis house. "The shelters help, but people have to let themselves be helped."
