Introduction

Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is the home of the Florida Gators. Since its inception in 1930, it has been known as one of the toughest venues in the Southeastern Conference, and even all of college football, for opposing teams and their fans to visit. Nicknamed “the Swamp” by former head football coach Steve Spurrier in the early 1990s, it has a personality that can take your breath away when you enter and take your hearing away by the time you leave; it’s annually called one of the top five loudest football stadiums in the country.

Over the years, the Swamp has undergone a mixture of both drastic and necessary upgrades and renovations. From gaining lights so night games could be played, to adding seats to make the attendance officially over 90,000 strong, Ben Hill Griffin Stadium has been through it all. The changes that have been made, though, are what makes the stadium what it is today: a place where “Only Gators Get Out Alive…”
