Activist Statements about the Pork Industry

The pig's high level of intelligence is largely cited within animal activist campaigns as being the main reasoning behind the need for modifications to the American pork industry's practices.

According to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), rather than being dirty animals, pigs wallow in mud baths in order to cool off because they do not sweat.

Farm Sanctuary, another animal advocacy group, objects the pork industry's practices of cutting pigs' tails to minimize tail biting because the animals do not receive any pain killers during the procedure.
