Maynard James Keenan, the lead singer of Tool, was born April 17, 1964, to a Baptist family in Ravenna, Ohio. He moved around the country quite a bit growing up, and had lived in Ohio, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas by 1982. It was then that he joined the army and became a member of the United States Military Academy prep class of 1984 at West Point. While there he was a member of the crossy country and wrestling teams, and also sang in the glee club. Maynard quit the army two years later to go study art at the Kendall College of Art and Design in Michigan. He eventually moved to Los Angeles, where he worked applying Feng Shui, or spatial design concepts, to remodeled pet stores. It was in LA that Maynard met future Tool drummer Danny Carey and guitarist Adam Jones. During the 80s, Maynard sang for the bands Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty and Green Jelly, and played bass for the band TexAns, before forming Tool. He he is unmarried, and has one son, Devo, who is 11 years old. A huge Kiss fan from childhood, Maynard now has millions of fans of his own, and continues to make music with Tool, as well as two major side projects, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer.
