Yoga Testimonials

Jackie Lopez is a 20-year-old French major at the University of Florida. She has recently starting taking yoga classes once or twice a week at her campus gym.

“Yoga just makes me feel better,” Lopez said. “Every time I go to a yoga class I regret not going more. It makes my body feel healthy- like I’m doing something good for myself.”

Her favorite pose is the Warrior 2 Pose because it’s easy to do, and it relieves built-up tension in her hips and thighs.

“Most of us sit in a chair or a desk every day, and we get stiff,” she said. “The Warrior 2 pose helps get rid of that.”

Julia Eskew is a 20-year-old who has been instructing yoga for 3 years. She had been a gymnast prior to trying out yoga, so the flexibility and strength exercises were easy for her to master.

“The thing that people initially think about when they want to try a yoga class is all of the barriers that are associated with it,” Eskew said. “For example some people may not know what to wear, where to go or what to expect. I usually tell people who are new to yoga what the class will entail before I get started teaching so that everyone can be on the same page.”

Eskew said that she would encourage everyone to try yoga at least once. “It has really changed my life. I’ve become such a different, more relaxed person since making yoga a part of my daily routine.” Her favorite part about teaching yoga is watching the people taking her class progress and become more confident.

Taylor Mann is a 21-year-old student at the University of Florida. She has been a dancer since she was a little girl, and she started taking yoga classes to help with her flexibility when she was in high school.

She said that in addition to yoga helping her maintain her flexibility, it has also helped keep her anxiety at bay.

“My favorite thing about yoga is that it calms me down,” Mann said. “I’m always on the go, and it really helps me focus on slowing down and remaining calm.”

Mann said that because dancing competitively can be grueling on the body, it is really important for her to stretch out her muscles and joints. Upward Dog is her favorite yoga pose.
