Geography of the United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is a 'country of countries' within the British Isles. It is rougly 94,000 square miles and consists of four countries within itself. England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Citizens who were born in this country hold a passport to, 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland'. Great Britain consists of England, Wales and Scotland. VERY CONFUSING!
However people within the United Kingdom are very loyal to the particular country that they come from, so be sure not to call people British. As you will see in the Northern Ireland page, there have been many 'troubles' that plagued the region for hundreds of years. The British Isles include several smaller islands around the main island of the UK it also includes the Republic of Ireland.
The current Prime Minister for the United Kingdom is David Cameron of the Conservative Party. The UK operates on a three-party system; Conservative (Tory), Labor, Liberal Democrats. The Queen holds the most power in the Kingdom, and she has ultimate rule over the land and has to sign laws before they become valid. However she is mostly a political figurehead and does not hold any 'real' power in the country.
