BBC has Sherlock, and now CBS has Elementary, a modern-day interpretation of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. Except this time, Holmes is a recovering drug addict and Watson is his sober companion...and a she. Together, the two cover the streets of New York solving murders.
The crimes are interesting and the dialogue is snappy, but for me, the appeal comes in the romance, or, more appropriately, the lack thereof. Name a show where the two main characters aren't dating or don't have some weird sexual chemistry. Exactly. You can't. But they don't in Elementary. Holmes and Watson solve crimes without tripping over murder weapons while making goo-goo eyes at each other and live together without awkward encounters in the kitchen at 3 a.m. There's never even been a near-kiss. They're roommates and partners and that's it, and that's enough of a reason to watch.
