The process

Plaster jackets are very common in the prep lab. The task starts by removing as much sediment as possible. Paleontologists spray water to help removing the sediment.

Once the fossil is exposed, dental picks are very useful for removing sediment in small areas. Paleontologists need to be very careful, fossils are fragile!

The image in the bottom right shows a fossil after the preparation process.
