What is Mulleft Festival?
The Boggy Bayou, or as locals just call it "Mullet Festival" is a country music festival held in Niceville, Florida every year around the time of October. This festival offers more than just big-name entertainment, it also has fine art, hand made home crafts, carnival rides, exhibits and a great variety of food concessions that consist of great local food. This music festival began in 1976 as a small event that no one outside of Nicevile knew about. Today, Mullet is one of the most celebrated festivals and in 2011 it was named one of the Top 12 food festivals in the nation! (Mullet Festival,2012) For this festival starting up in Niceville, a small little southern town, Mullet Festival has gained a lot of recognition. For the locals, Mullet Festival works as a reuinon where this event actually allows everyone from this small town to be all together at the same time allowing for friendsihps to be rekindled.
The food that you will see at Mullet Festival is very southern cuisine, but that is what makes it even more delicious! The Cajun spices that are used make the food extremely popular. You can expect to find a wide variety of menu options that you can guarantee will not leave anyone hungry. You will find fried and smoked mullet, a lot of fried items such as shrimp, shark, alligator, crawfish, vegetables, wings, oreos, funnel cakes and twinkies. Make sure to not be scared of the fried items because they are to die for!
Besides the food, rides and games, everyone always looks forward to the musical attraction. Every year there are nation wide known country artists that are on Billboard's Hot 100, have won a Country Music Award and are on top of the charts. Past performers include Jake Own, Kelly Pickler, Florida Georgia Line, Trace Adkins, Blake Shelton, Rascal Flats and more! (Mullet Festival,2012). The best part of Mullet Festival is that the ticket admission which is $15 includes all live entertainment. Just to see one of these artists at a regular venue can cost a minimum of $40, but with this festival, you see them for more than half the price off!. This small town festival lasts three days, from Friday to Sunday night with each night a headlining performance. Mullet Festival may just be worth the roadtrip to the panhandle for a fun packed weekend if you enjoy some southern hospitality!
