Step One- Preparing to make your costume:
Before you get started, you will need to decide how to theme your costume. The key is contrast, so you'll want to make sure that you choose two distinct themes. I chose to use a "normal" and a more "gothic" personality, but there are plenty of other options!
Next, you will need two tops and two bottoms. I chose a T-shirt and a blouse, and two skirts, to sew together. Skirts are far easier to put together but pants can be used as well if you have some experience sewing.
Please note that this is NOT a sewing tutorial! If you aren't comfortable using a sewing machine, I suggest reading through the steps, then visiting the Variations section for tips on other ways to carry out the project.
Also, choose accessories to match your contrasting themes. I chose different wrist jewelry, earrings, and makeup styles. I also wore different shoes, but please remember to choose shoes with similar heel heights! A very slight difference may go unnoticed for a short time, but anything that shifts your balance as you stand straight will become uncomfortable in the long run!
Gather or obtain any makeup you will need to emphasize each side of your face. I used a traditional makeup style on the "normal" half of my face, and used a lighter foundation and darker accent colors on the "gothic" side. You'll see more of that in Step Four!
