Slow Food

Journalist Carlo Petrini founded Slow Food in 1986 in Italy in opposition to the fast food industry, the growth of unsustainable agriculture and the decline of cultural distinctions in cuisine. The international organization now has more than 100,000 that try to protect local food products and traditionals from being driven into extinction by global brands.

Slow Food's local chapter is called Slow Food Gainesville.
