The copy desk section is one of the less known sections at a paper, but it is also one of the most important. A paperís main selling point is its credibility, without that itís just a tabloid full of unfounded claims and accusations.

Copy is responsible for fact checking just about everything that comes through the newsroom including figures, numbers, names, locations and anything else a reporter or photographer may have been misinformed about.

Without a good copy section a paper will have many mistakes which means many corrections and apologies that are very detrimental to its credibility.
