Takoyaki (literally "fried octopus"; tako meaning octopus and yaki meaning fried) is a kind of fried dumpling made from an egg-based batter, bits of octopus, scallions and red ginger. It's round and eaten hot, straight from the pan. The inside is gooey and the outside is crispy. Takoyaki is eaten with special sauce and bits of thin, dried fish flakes and aoinori (green seaweed flakes).
