You will also learn about various materials used in the process of brewing, including the long list of special equipment needed to successfully create your own brew from home, as well as the different ingredients that beer is comprised of.

This site will also show you where you can purchase ingredient kits and brewing equipment.

But first, let's talk a little bit about beer brewing. History shows that beer was brewed as early as 6000 BC in ancient Sumeria, where it was made from barley. Over time, the beverage has gone through many transformations, from the process through which it is created, to the ingredients used to concoct it. Technology has also lended a hand in turning brewing from a home activity, to a global industry that is worth over $400 billion, according to a global industry report.

However, even though brewing is such a lucrative world-wide industry, it is still a hobby that many people enjoy from the confines of their own homes. It is an enjoyable, hands-on process, but it is also one that can be fiscally enticing to people -- especially college students. There is a significant startup cost of about $200 to cover the equipment (depending on where you purchase it) and ingredient kits, which go for about $40, but in the long run, it can actually save you money over purchasing name brand beers. Some people who brew from home may even decide to try to turn a profit by bottling and selling their home brews.
