Painting 101

By: Leora Arnowitz

This Web site is a basic introduction to the world of painting. Designed for beginners, this site touches on the different aspects of painting and provides tips for getting started.

Many artists, like Darrell Crow, believe that painting is for everyone. Crow declares on his site "Yes, you can paint." While some may feel that painting should be left to the experts, reasearch shows the more popular view is that almost anyone can paint. There are plenty of other sites out there that share this view. For example, Painting Online Experts is a site where painters can interact and assist each other in addressing painting problems. If you are looking for encouragement to get started, take a look at Web sites like those.

A blank canvas can be very intimidating, according to 25-year-old artist Carmen Joy. Sometimes, the fear of the white canvas keeps painters from starting a new project, but she says it is important to remember that there is always something out there for you to paint. You just have to look around.

As a beginner, you may feel like you have no idea where to begin, but with this site I hope to be able to provide you with all of the tools you need to begin painting. To the right, you will find a collection of resources. It includes what I think are some of the best Web sites, videos and supply stores to help you start painting. Feel free to tour the different links and take a look around. Hopefully, you will find everything you'll need to try your hand at painting!

Let's get started!
