Area 51 Aircraft: Confirmed

Although much of the buzz that surrounds Area 51 is about secret projects, there have been a number of incredible aircraft and other weapons which have been developed at Area 51 and deployed without any certain veil of secrecy. Read on and see some the amazing machines which have been developed at the secret base:

SR-71 Blackbird

The SR-71 was the workforce of U.S. Aerial reconnaisance for years and was only recently retired in 1998. This menacing, all-black aircraft must have been quite the sight to behold in 1966 when it made its maiden flight. It incorporates a low profile with unorthodox shapes which help to keep it difficult to spot on radar, and it can travel at more than 3 times the speed of sound. This aircraft was certainly was ahead of its time, and its staying power showed just how good it really was.

F-117A Nighthawk Stealth Fighter

This aircraft was the very first operational craft in the world to be nearly invisibile to radar. It was so secret that when it was originally tested at Area 51, all nonessential personel were required to go inside while the aircraft was moving to and from its hangar so it would not be seen by them. They were first tested in 1981, and therefore were only flown at night to avoid being seen by Soviet satellites which performed daily photographic flyovers. It uses angular design and radar absorbent paneling which allow it to absorb and reflect away radar. This gives it a similar radar signature to a bird, meaning it can creep up on almost anyone without them knowing. This aircraft is yet another testament to the engineering feats performed by the Area 51 scientists.
