How to Make Sushi

A California roll is made of: sticky rice, nori (seaweed), cucumber, crab, avocado, sesame seeds and roe (fish eggs). Here is how to make it:

  1. To start making a California roll, you must break the nori down the middle and place it on the rolling mat with the rough side facing up.
  2. Wet both hands and place a handful of sticky rice onto the nori. Spread the rice evenly across the nori so it is about a centimeter high and then flip it over so the rice is facing the rolling mat.
  3. Place the cucumber, crab and avocado near the edge of the nori.
  4. Roll the sushi by making a rectangular hill and tightening it from above.
  5. Continue rolling rectangles until you get to the end making sure to tighten it on all sides so it remains firm. If the rice does not stick together well it is likely to fall apart.
  6. Roll the sushi by making a rectangular hill and tightening it from above.
  7. Slice the sushi into either 6 or 8 pieces. Be sure to wet the knife so the rice does not stick.
