Christmas Along The Nile

Like the Russian Orthodox Church, Christian Egyptians celebrate Christmas on January 7. Egyptian churches and Christian homes are decorated with lights, trees (both real and artificial) and manger scenes prior to Christmas. On Christmas Eve, the pope begins the prayers, in the Coptic language, in the Cathedral of Saint Mark in Cairo, and they are broadcast starting at 11 p.m. by Egyptian television.
