The Supreme Court of the United States
The United Supreme Court is the highest court American citizens can turn to in the judiciary process.
To balace govenmental powers, the Framers developed the executive, legislative, and judiciary branches of government. Each branch is intended to keep the other in check.
The Supreme Court, the highest body of the judiciary branch, is primarily an appelate court. This means normally, cases on appeal from lower courts are heard by the nine justices.
The purpose of our Supreme Court is to interpret federal law. Many times there is conflict between two laws or amendments to the Constitution. It is then the duty of the Supreme Court to interpret these laws.
