Evolution of CSR

Roy Culpeper, President of the North-South Institute argued in a speech that corporate social responsibility is only part of a societal evolution that is being brought on by the trend of gloabalization.

He suggests that corporate responsibility and accountability evolve through five stages: financial, economic, environmental, social and political.

Corporations are constantly faced with a two-pronged sense of responsibility:

  1. Support and promote human rights and freedoms.
  2. Avoid and discourage human rights and freedoms abuses.
