Pensacola is located in the very west part of the Panhandle. This city was home to the first permanent Spanish settlement in west Florida. Pensacola was also home to the first training center for Navy piolets. The United States first nautic station, was established in Pensacola in 1914, and is now known as the Pensacola Naval Air Station (the TV show Wings of Gold is based on the Naval station found in this city). Pensacola is also part of the Emerald Coast, which consists of miles of white sands and turquoise waters. The Emerald Coast stretches from Pensacola through Destin (my hometown) to Panama City. The unspoiled beaches have started a huge wave of tourism in the last 10 years.
