Timeline of Oceanography

As with all of science, advances have arisen due to need. Oceanography started, therefore, due to practicality. To get from one place to another on a body of water, one needed the knowledge of what type of vessel to use, how to power it, and how to keep a steady direction. Over time researchers developed different technology and found out more information. Modern approaches to oceanography include military uses, environmental concerns, coastal zone management, and natural disaster warning. Find out more on the timeline:
