No. 8A Ida H.
Harrell (1873-1959)

Ida was the eighth child of Joseph Colley and Nancy Holloway Harrell. She was born on Jan. 28, 1873, near Brooker, Bradford County, Florida. She married Thomas Lee Weeks on August 8, 1896. He was the son of John A. and Harriet Hill Weeks. They settled on a several hundred-acre farm near Worthington Springs, Florida. They raised corn, cotton and the usual farm crops of their time. They had horses, cattle, hogs and chickens, all of which added up to a good farm life for them. They attended North Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, which was near their home. They still went back to New Hope Primitive Baptist Church for homecoming. Most of Ida's family would be there as well.

Ida was known through the community for her home remedies. She knew which leaves and roots to treat many ailments. Neighbors called on her when there was sickness in their family. She would go out in the woods and cut or dig the roots of the plants she would need. She was a very small lady, but she was very strong-willed and could get the message across very well. She died on October 20, 1959. Thomas died in 1943. They are buried at New Hope Cemetery.
