The US presidential Working Group on Unlawful Conduct on the Internet, led by U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, has acknowledged the need for law enforcers to expand their capabilities for fighting what is termed "cyber crime." The crime fighting vision of the Working Group includes:
- Real-time tracing of Internet communications across traditional jurisdictional boundaries, both domestically and internationally;
- A systematic track-down of sophisticated users who commit crimes on the Internet while hiding their identities;
- A higher degree of coordination among various law enforcement agencies at home and abroad;
- The ability to gather appropriate evidence to investigate and prosecute these cases in court.
