What is Relay For Life

Event Logistics

Over time the event has grown and evolved into the entity it is today. Most events around the country are 12-18 hour events that take place overnight. This is to signify the "Cancer never sleeps, so neither do we" attitude that has become common place among participants. Events are held on outdoor and indoor tracks. Teams made of 10 - 15 participants of friends, family, neighbors, and organization members raise money prior to and through the event.

The event kicks off with the survivor lap where all the participants line the track and cheer on cancer survivors as they take the first lap around the track. Each team has a campsite that they decorate with respect to the theme of the year and the survivors judge who has the best campsite at the event. The Luminaria ceremony takes place at nine o'clock and that is when we honor those that have lost their battle to cancer.
