A few simple safety tips that I have learned through experience

  1. Always stretch before lifting.
  2. Never... EVER swing the bar. When you swing the bar you are compromising your technique and will end up hurting yourself.
  3. You should not begin the lift with a bend in your elbow. When you accelerate with the weight, it puts strain on the joint which will lead to problems sooner than later.
  4. When attempting the jerk, be aware of your surroundings. If you lose control of the weight, make sure to direct the wieght away from yourself.
