How to make Basboosa

Recipe for Basboosa

2 cups Cream of Wheat

1 cup of sugar

2 sticks of margarine (melted)

3/4 cup of shredded coconut

2/3 cup of half & half milk

16 oz. of sour cream

1 tsp of baking powder

Recipe for Syrup glaze

2 cups of sugar

1 cup of water

1/2 tsp of rose water

1/2 tsp of lemon juice

Step 1 -- Mix all ingredients

In a mixing bowl, add the Cream of Wheat, sugar, melted margarine, shredded coconut, half & half milk, sour cream and baking powder. Whenever our family melts the margarine, we usually throw it in the microwave for 40 seconds. Whisk for five minutes until chunkiness is at a minimum. (Remember, for every 1 cup of Cream of Wheat, add 8 ounces of sour cream.) Let stand for a couple of hours.

Step 2 -- Prep for oven

Spray an 11x13 pan with butter spray. Pour mixture into pan. Cut mixture into desired squares. (We usually divide it into 12 servings.) Let stand for 2 hours.

Step 3 -- Bake

Set oven to 350 degrees farenheit. Bake for 45 minutes.

Step 4 -- Add syrup glaze

Simply mix ingredients for syrup glaze and boil for 5 minutes. Then, drizzle syrup over basboosa and enjoy!
