From the Expert:
Here are a few tips from Mobley:
- Definitely get comfortable on the driving range before tackling the course. It can be a frustrating experience to hit the course before you're ready.
- Stretch lower body, hips, back and shoulders about 15 to 20 minutes before practicing.
- Go on YouTube to look at professional golf swings. Find one that you like by someone with a similar build, and watch over and over in slow motion.
- Study terminology of teaching pros, so when you receive lessons you will be able to follow their instructions.
- Expectations: Go to learn the process, not to hit a 300-yard drive. You have to learn the process and the results will come.

From Me:
I agree with all the tips above, but I have a few of my own.
- Golf is a challenging and frustrating sport, but try to keep a positive attitude and don't give up. Remember you are not going to play like the pros!
- When you think you're ready to hit the course, don't start on the tee. Start playing from the 100-yard marker, then the 150 and move your way up. This will allow you to work on your short game, which is probably the most important, and keep your scores to a minimum, which can be encouraging.
- Developing bad habits is a given in golf. The best way to beat them is to first seek the help of a professional, and then practice, practice, practice.
- Last but not least, enjoy! Surround yourself with friends and have fun. Don't obsess over your score or a bad shot you hit on the last hole. If you're having trouble doing so, just stop keeping score! Remember, it's about learning the process, not going pro.
