Rankins need specific temperature gradients to stay healthy. The best way to set up the gradients is to keep your heat lamp and UVB light on the same end of the tank. The heated area should be 90 to 100F. The cool area should be about 70 to 80F degrees. Temperatures should never fall below 65F or rise above 110F.

Placing the water dish and food on the cooler end will prevent them from drying up. Depending on your dragon, you might want to have a feeding set up on each end.

The only way to be sure that your tank is being maintained at the proper temperature is to have at least one thermometer. Your local reptile or pet store should have a variety to choose from. They are fairly inexpensive, so it is better to have one thermometer for the cool end, and one for the hot end.
