Ted Spiker

Ted Spiker is the head of the magazine sequence for the University of Florida's journalism department. He spoke at the convention banquet on Friday night, addressing the crowd of about 1000 high school journalists about the "It" factor. Spiker identified five different "Its" for his audience: hustle, team, attitude, style, and play. He said that each of these was essential for a journalist to have in order to be successful.

"The one that's most important is the hustle factor. You can teach kids nuts and bolts, but man, it's hard to teach somebody that if the sources you have are not good enoug for yuour story, you go find another one."
