Where it all Started
The War of the Worlds broadcast was supposed to be just another episode of a regularly scheduled radio program.
Each week, Orson Welles and his Mercury Theater group organized and produced the program, called First Person Singular, for the CBS network. The broadcasts featured dramatic reenactments of popular literature pieces. (2)
On October 30, 1938 , the program was to present an adaptation of Herbert George Wells' science fiction novel The War of the Worlds. The 19 th century novel told the story of a Martian attack on 19th century England.(3)
