Harry Potter has not received praise and holler from all reviewers. Some have compared the books to one-dimensional animated motion pictures.¹

In the article, Holden said he does not feel the characters are realistic or three-dimensional and that Harry is almost a cliché in the fact that he is another orphan. Further, Holden notes a lack of suspense, unembellished prose, over-indulgence in sentimentality and predictable plot lines.
