The Snowball Effect

Realistic Characters

Some think that the Harry Potter novels have overall wholesome messages, including Christian values, despite the controversy concerning evil in the books.

"I don't see any, any problems in the Harry Potter series," said the Rev. Don Peter Fleetwood in an Associated Press article posted on the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.³

Fleetwood, who is in the secretariat of the European Episcopal Conference, helped draft a release from the Vatican concerning Harry Potter.

"[J.K. Rowling is] Christian by conviction, is Christian in her mode of living, even in her way of writing," he said, disputing claims that Harry Potter would be problematic for the Catholic faith.

"If I have understood well the intentions of Harry Potter's author, they help children to see the difference between good and evil. And she is very clear on this."
