The Snowball Effect

Realistic Characters

The suspense and friendship elements are what Ivan M.¹, 12, of Florida, enjoys most about the Harry Potter books.

"Rowling sets it up so that you think you have the mystery figured out, but really you don't," he said. "I think she purposely does that when she is writing."

"Sometimes, you don't even want to really figure out the mystery until the end," he said.

Ivan enjoys the various friendships in the novels because he so highly values friends.

"You can always use one more friend," he said.
