The
Real Alcázar is a fortress, inhabited by Muslim and Christian royalty
for many centuries since construction began in 913 A.D. (5).
Inside its walls are beautiful, tended gardens and Moorish palaces.
The gardens are the perfect place to unwind and relax after intensive
touring. From the Jardín de las Danzas, you can see a tunnel of pools
running beneathe the palace to the Baños de Doña María de Padilla. Farther
out in the gardens is a maze and palm trees brought back in the 1500s
from Florida (2).
The Alcázar is located in the Plaza del Triunfo near La Catedral. It is
open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and Sundays
from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. during the Fall and Winter. During Spring
and Summer the fortress is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday through
Saturday and from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
(4) Entrance is free with a student card. For additional information
