The
arches of La Catedral, Sevilla’s immense cathedral, reach 94 meters,
which has been admired since its inception by the Moors in 1184 (1).
The Gothic-style church was completed in 1507 and measures as one of the
largest cathedrals in the world (2).
La
Girlada is the most impressive feature of the cathedral, which also
claims
to house the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The 90-meter, Moorish-style
tower on the northeastern side of the cathedral is Sevilla’s
trademark. La Giralda can easily be climbed by a series of ramps
for a spectacular view of the
city below (2).

The cathedral’s visiting hours are from Monday through Saturday from
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Discounted fees for
students are 1.50€ with student identification. For more information
contact (95 421 49 71) (2). |
