19: Floyd Mayweather
v. Victoriano Sosa |
My pick: Mayweather
by unanimous decision over Sosa.
I
don't see Victoriano Sosa beating Floyd in any way, shape or form.
Mayweather is too slick and fast for Sosa and will easily outbox
the Dominican slugger on his way to a unanimous decision. His lack
of power at 135 though will prevent a stoppage win for Floyd. |
| Friday, April 25: Bronco McKart v. Verno Phillips |
My pick: McKart by unanimous
decision over Phillips.
While
Phillips remains a dangerous fighter, McKart really only loses
to Winky Wright and manages to beat everyone else. He has
a difficult style to beat and he's fast enough to outbox Phillips on
the outside, which is what I think he will most likely do. Mckart by
decision. Yeah, that's right. |
| Saturday, April 26: James Toney v. Vassily Jirov |
My pick: Jirov by close unanimous
decision over Toney.
A lot of people are picking Toney in this one because of the amount
of time Jirov has been absent from the ring and Toney's apparent
new willingness to get into shape. I don't buy it for a minute. I think
Toney will come into the fight in decent, not great shape and will
be outworked by the younger, hungrier Jirov. Jirov is a non-stop
pressure fighter with good power and I expect him to outwork and outland
Toney over 12 rounds. |
| Saturday, May 3: Oscar de la Hoya v. Yori Boy Campas |
My pick: DLH by 7th round KO over Yori Boy.
Look, I understand that this is seemingly the year of the upset,
but that train derails itself here. Yori Boy does not belong in the
same ring as Oscar at this point in his career and will get pounded
in this fight. I see a total mismatch. Look for Oscar to hurt Campas
early and keep the pressure on, maybe drop him in the early rounds
too. |
| Saturday, May 17: Leo Dorin v. Paul Spadafora |
The pick: Spadafora by some type of decision over Dorin.
In a battle of the heavy-handed sluggers..(sarcasm) These two will
most definitely go to a decision. The deciding factor here, though
is that I think Spadafora is just a little bit faster than Dorin and
has better defense than the Romanian champ. I think he will confuse
Dorin enough to take a decision and move one step closer to a bout
with Floyd Mayweather. |
