Fans often hear about the graduation rates at their favorite schools. Most fans however do not know how these rates are compiled. Some of the players on the team do not even count towards the school's graduation rates. If a player starts out at one school and transfers to another school his rate counts for the first school. So if a team has a lot of junior college transfers their graduation rates will automatically be lower. The rates are considered when hiring and firing coaches. Overall athletes have a higher graduation rate than the average student. The rates are compiled by figuring out the number of athletes that graduate within six years of entering college.
