Before we look into cultural imperialism, it is vital to take a look at the concept of globalization. This concept is a very controversial subject. I merely want to define and explain the concept on neutral terms. The Webster’s dictionary defines globalization as "to make global; to make worldwide in scope or application." Globalization is not a new concept. For over five hundred years, monarchs, generals, philanthropists and corporations have been constructing an ever-more-global economy. Today, unprecedented changes in communications, transportation, and computer technology have opened a new way for globalization. How does this tie in with cultural imperialism? Some people view cultural imperialism as an externality. Some may the United States is one of the world’s super powers, they cannot help it if other countries look up to them and absorb anything American that comes their way. Others feel cultural imperialism is an intentional consequence that comes along with globalization.
