An All-Star his rookie season, Gonzalez was plagued by injuries his second year. Termed the "sophomore blues" with many baseball afficionados. His quickness on the field and diverse hitting ability is a valuble asset to the Marlins, which he proved his rookie year with a .277 batting average, 14 homeruns, 8 triples, 155 runs scored and 28 doubles. Then while playing in his home country of Venezuela, he fractured his forearm, causing an off year in 2000. This year he's already off to a good start with a .286 batting average.
