Gainesville, Fla., is located in north central
Florida roughly halfway between Atlanta and Miami in
an area plentiful with freshwater lakes and close to the
Ocklawaha, Santa Fe and Suwannee Rivers. U.S. Highway
441 runs through the center of town on a north-south
route, while Fla. State Route 26 disects the city as an
east-west corridor, and Interstate 75 is located on the
western fringe of the city limits.

Pick ups are coordinated on a weekly basis, schedules for each
area of the city can be obtained by telephoning the following
offices.

Alachua County has a county-wide recycling program including;
curbside recycling, recycling center, as well as business and
apartment recycling programs.
What to Recycle:
Plastic -- milk jugs, soda bottles, or other clear or
translucent containers marked with a recycling code 1 or 2.
Magazines/Catalogues -- bag them separately from newspapers.
Corrugated Cardboard -- Flatten boxes. No pasteboard such as
pizza cereal or shoeboxes.
Metal Cans/Spray Cans -- Empty aerosal cans. Aluminum cans.
Steel cans, such as soup, vegetable and pet food cans.
Newspaper/Brown Paper Bags -- Clean, dry, newspaper and brown
bags only. On rainy days, place in a plastic bag. Advertising
inserts are OK.
Glass -- All clear, green, brown bottle and jars.
Household Batteris -- Put batteries in a small unsealed bag.
No car batteries.
Telephone Books -- Old telephone books can be recycled when
new directories are distributed. Containers are placed at
various drop-off locations around the city and phone books
are collected in "Big Blue" curbside programs.
