Museums and Historical Sites:
Camp Blanding Museum & Memorial Park

The park at Camp Blanding contains WWII vintage aircraft,
artillery and vehicles as well as monuments to Medal of Honor
recipients. The museum displays memorabilia of the early
history of Camp Blanding and its role in WWII. Gift Shop.
Open 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tueday - Friday; 1-5 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday. Closed Monday. Free.
Florida Museum of Natural History

A full-size replica of a North Florida limesetone cave, a Mayan
Palace and a Fossil Study Center are only part of the allure of
the largest natural history museum in the Southeast. Visitors also
learn about the state’s history in the Florida Indian Peoples
Room and the Hall of Florida History. Open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Monday - Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Free.
Fred Bear Museum

The late Fred Bear was a bowhunter of world renown. Lion, deer,
bear and other specimens taken by Bear and other bowhunters are
on display inthe museum, along with spears, bows, and arrows, shields
and other weaponry. Visitors also my view the workings inside the
Bear Archery factory. Open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday - Sunday.
Closed Monday and Tuesday. Admission $2.50 adults; $1.50 ages 6-12;
under 6 free. Family admission two adults, all minor children under
12, $6.00.

Harn Museum of Art

The spacious galleries of the dramatic Harn Museum of Art house
collections from varied cultures of th Americas, Asia, Africa and
Europe,a s well as contemporary works. The 62,000-square-foot
museum includes a gift shop with a unique selection of quality
gifts. Open 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5p.m. Sunday.
Closed Monday. Free.
Thomas Center

The Thomas Center, with its stylish exhibition rooms and lovely
gardens, was built as a villa in 1906 and converted to the Thomas
Hotel in 1928. The Mediterranean Revival style center is the site
of a variety of art exhibits and musical programs. Tours of the
Thomas Center and its 1920 period rooms may be taken 8 a.m. - 5p.m.
Monday - Friday or from 1 -4p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free.

The Santa Fe Gallery was the first community college gallery in
the nation to be approved by the National Gallery of Art and
Smithsonian Institution for loans of high security exhibitions.
Contemproary exhibits of regional and national artists are on

Fine Arts Building and Grinter Hall

Three galleris on the University of Florida campus display a
variety of artwork and are open to the public. The University
Gallery in Fine Arts Building B exhibits contemporary art by
local, national and international artists. Its hours are
10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday - Friday;
and 1 -5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Free.
The Focus Gallery in Fine Arts Building C displays work of
students and emerging artists. Open Mondy - Friday 8 - 11:45
a.m. and 1 - 4:45 p.m. Free.
The Grinter Gallery in Grinter Hall. Specialized international
artwork. Open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Free.

The Performing Arts:
Acrosstown Repertory Theatre

Acrosstown Repertory Theatre might well be described as
Gainesville’s Off-Broadway. The 80-seat community theatre is
home of experimental, avant garde and often cross-cultural
productions. Though often outside mainstream theatre, Acrosstown
Theatre performers sometimes include classics.
