>How to Eat Right

-Know what your body can, and cannot, digest

-Consume light snacks packed with plenty of nutrients

-Maintain adequate levels of glycogen

In addition to following an adequate diet that meets nutritional goals, eating the right food at the right time is also an important component to marathon success. While running, your body will look to glycogen and fat as sources of fuel, so by increasing daily carbohydrate intake, you also increase your glycogen storage. By eating properly before, during and after a run, you will be sure to maintain adequate energy levels.

An hour before a run, consume a light snack, such as a banana or a wheat bagel. Be sure that your body can properly digest whatever snack you decide to consume. It is also recommended to try different foods during your training period to see what works best for you.

Thirty minutes after a run, it is recommended that you replenish your carbohydrate and protein levels in order to help your body recover fully and remain strong for future runs.
