'Crocodile Fotos'. His first published photographs in the National Geographic Magazine included new images from Yosemite National Park and California. Soon after his internship, Blair traveled to Asia Minor, Africa and Europe -- all for the National Geographic Society. During one assignment he actually sailed across the Sahara Desert, and was presented with a medal for his achievement by the President of Mauritania! During the 1970s he established himself as a contract photographer with the Society, and began specializing in adventure stories that took him from the Berkshires to the Mediterranean. He also developed new skills in underwater photography . During the past five years he has been working on a series of articles about the Rise of Life on earth for the National Geographic. The most recent story ? Pterosaurs: Lords of the Ancient Skies, appears in the May 2001 issue.
