How to pass

Passing the disc is obviously an essential part of the game. There are three types of passes: the back-handed pass, the front-handed "flick," and the over-head pass, or the "hammer."

An Ultimate Frisbee player dives during a game.

The back-handed pass is the most commonly used. To perform one, plant your foot and curl the frisbee across your waist, then use your wrist to flick it while extending your arm to point in the direction of the receiver.

The front-handed flick and over-head pass are more difficult to perform and require gripping the disc differently and a greater snap in your follow-through. However, these options can give you more flexibility in making a completed pass.

In the video on the left, Chris demonstrates how to make an effective back-handed pass.
