Extra Info

This Web site was designed, researched and written by David Ventura as a project for MMC3260, Communications on the Internet, a course at the University of Florida in the College of Journalism and Communications. I fell in love with the game of basketball at about age 6 and now at 22 I love the game even more. I wasn't very good at first, but I would go to the playground every day after school and play with friends. Most of the time I was there playing by myself. I would talk to myself and pretend that I was in the middle of a championship game with my team down by one point with a few seconds remaining. Of course, in my imaginary game the ball is in my hands and I would have to take and make the game winning shot for the championship as the buzzer sounds off.

This is where I developed most of my skills I learned the fundamentals of the by reading books and watching professional games. When I got old enough (11 years old) my parents put me on my first basketball team. It was a great experience and I learned how to play the game with a team. My coach would make us do all kinds of drills that would improve certain aspects of our game. By the time I reached junior high school I tried out for the junior varsity team and I got cut. I didn't make the team that year. I simply wasn't good enough at the time.

I would practice every day for months telling myself that I must make the team next year. I tried out again the following year and I made the team. It was one of the most gratifying days of my life. All the hard work and time paid off. I felt that as long as you put your mind to something you can achieve anything. I even played basketball for my high school basketball team for a couple of years. I was or am a good player but my talent could only take me so far. I don't have the typical basketball players' body and I am not extraordinarily talented physically. I just know how to play the game and play it well.

About Me

David Ventura

So as you can see I am very passionate about the game of basketball. I had a lot of fun creating this web-site because I love the game. I enjoy teaching the fundamentals of the game, in addition to helping young players learn how to play the game the right way.

I'm a college student working on my undergraduate degree in journalism at UF. I would like to one day go to law school or write for ESPN the magazine or for Sports Illustrated. I was born in Queens, New York, until we moved to Melbourne, Florida in 1997.
